In 1986, the faculties of the country's medical department were separated from the body of the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education and continued to work together with the former Ministry of Health under the title "Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education". In this way, Mashhad University was divided into two independent institutions named "Mashhad University of Medical Sciences" and "Mashhad Ferdowsi University".
